Rescue Family of the Year

Donald and Catherine Kelley for assisting with rescue

Although we didn’t have a lot of rescues in 2022, we did have some very difficult ones and the Kelley’s were always there to help.  One in particular was little Chloe.  It involved a domestic abuse situation and a very traumatized woman with health issues who was agonizing over giving her Chloe up but deep down knew it was the right thing to do.  When Cathy volunteered to handle the surrender, it took several attempts and a lot of patience to actually get the hand off even scheduled.  To top it off, the Orange County facility that usually boards our rescues would not take her because she was not vaccinated for Canine Influenza so the hand off was delayed while we looked for another boarding option.  This was all happening Easter week and when we finally secured a boarding facility and Cathy was able to successfully complete the surrender and get Chloe in the boarding facility, we were told she could only stay for one week.  Kelley’s once again without hesitation volunteered to transport her from Laguna Beach to our back up facility in Canoga Park if we couldn’t find her a home before the deadline.  Suddenly we got lucky and had a potential home for Chloe so instead, the Kelly’s picked up Chloe in Laguna Beach and met a lovely couple from West Hollywood at a Starbucks in Long Beach for a meet and greet and it was love at first sight.  If some of you were at fun day you may have met Jeannie and Chloe. They are a very happy family.

The Kelley’s also came to our rescue with Lily.  Handling both the surrender and boarding transportation from Orange County to the valley.  They are always willing to do whatever it takes to help with rescue and deserve to be celebrated today.
